Description

A quick and easy recipe for classic Swedish meatballs using frozen meatballs, perfect for a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb frozen meatballs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brown the frozen meatballs in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove meatballs and set aside.
  2. Add butter to the skillet and sauté the chopped onion until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the onions and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  6. Return the browned meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through and the sauce is rich and creamy.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of brandy or sherry to the sauce.
  • Adjust seasoning to your taste.
